Punta Gorda Yacht Brokers/Gulf Island Sails is owned and operated by Ed and Sara Benson. Ed and two partners opened the business in 1998 in the old Punta Gorda Mall. In 2003, the Bensons bought the property on King Street and formed Gulf Island Sails. At the same time, they bought out their two partners and expanded the business to include new sailboats and yard services. They have previously been dealers for Precision, Hunter, Catalina, MacGregor, Ranger Tugs, Hobie Cats, Com-Pac Yachts and Tohatsu outboard motors.
Currently, PGYB/GIS has become the largest Com-Pac dealer of new sailboats in Southwest Florida. At the same time, the full service brokerage offers consignment sales, service department, small boat yard and motor sales.
